MSP INAUGURATES THE DOMUS SERVORUM DOMINI

On the occasion of the Solemnity of Sts Peter and Paul, the MSP has inaugurated and blessed its new Retirement Home, dubbed as Domus Servorum Domini (House of the Servants of the Lord) on June 29, 2013 at 10:00 am. The Domus is located at the MSP property in Tayud, Consolacion, Cebu, on a hill overlooking the Mactan Strait.

The blessing was witnessed by MSP benefactors and friends, as well as by MSP priests who have concluded their theological updating. The blessing was officiated by Fr Patrick Casino who also spoke about a little history of this ambitious and noble project. Then there was a ceremonial cutting of ribbon by Fr Alfie Africa, the MSP Father Moderator, and Ms Teresita Mercado, one of the benefactors of this project.

It was followed by a Holy Eucharistic celebration presided by Fr Felomino Mahusay, who celebrated on that day his 45th anniversary a priest. Afterwards, lunch was served for the MSP priests and guests. His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, the archbishop emeritus of Cebu, paid a short visit to the place.

The Domus Servorum Domini was a long-time dream of the MSP. It was made into a resolution in the MSP General Assembly of 1999, but for some reasons, the project was on hold. It was followed up in the next two General Assemblies, that is, in 2004 and in 2009.

The present Father Moderator, Fr Alfie Africa, made it as among his top priorities during his term. In June 2010, there held a groundbreaking rite at the location, which was attended by some MSP benefactors and friends. Though the assistance of a few funding agencies and generous individuals, the work of this project progressed. It took three long years to complete the said project.

The MSP is grateful to Ms Teresita Mercado; Ms Elsa de Gracia; Architect Wilson and Elisa Cabahug; The Little Way - Mary Doohan of Ireland; the Missionary Sisters of St Peter Claver in Rome, Italy; the Diocese of Roermond in the Netherlands; the Yomitan Catholic Church community in Okinawa, Japan; the Propaganda Fide in Vatican City, and MSP benefactors and friends.
