In Memoriam, Rev. Fr. Robert B. Sablon, MSP 1979-2022

Rev. Fr. Robert Beduyas Sablon, MSP, Fr. Nonoy (43) 1979-2022

Youngest child of Antonio Cuello Sablon (+) and Efipania Adorable Beduyas.

Fr. Nonoy was the youngest of nine siblings. He had 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Fr. Nonoy liked to describe himself as a typical “barrio” boy, he learned to work hard in the family farm at a young age, he knew how to make sacrifices for the family in order to survive. He helped his father who was a farmer and a tenant of a hectare of rice field. It was the source of the family income.

His family values education: he and all of his siblings graduated with a college degree. At seven years old, he started to get involved in church activities in Badiangan, Ilo-ilo. He was as an altar boy. He was greatly influenced by his parents who were daily church goers.

Fr. Nonoy was a hardworking person, who can work under pressure and overtime. In all that he did he sees to it that he gave his all, his very best because he believed that the product of one’s action will tell people of the kind of person he was.

He was also a very passionate person especially to the poor because once he had experienced poverty as a child. He loved to make friends, be with them, and to be in their company.

When he was in the seminary, he saw a lot of opportunities for growth as a person of Christ, to be mature in his Christian faith, and to grow in selfless service to the poor and the abandoned people in society. This ultimate dream was realized in his life as a missionary priest. Something that he firmly believed in even as a young seminarian, he was called to this kind of ministry.

A month prior to his death, June 19, 2022, he wrote, “To be a priest, the most touching experience is always when I give Jesus to people I serve – Only Jesus!”

He was preparing for his new mission assignment to be the head of the activities for the youth under the Catholic Bishops’ Conference youth commission for Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. He could have started on August 24, 2022. Many people are shocked and saddened by his sudden demise.

Fr. Nonoy, Salamat Gid, may you be welcomed by the Good Lord Jesus in his kingdom. Rest in peace our dear brother. Please pray for the Mission Society of the Philippines.
