"HAVE A RENEWED FAITH AND HOPE IN THE RISEN LORD": AN EASTER MESSAGE OF THE FATHER MODERATOR

“He is not here, he is risen!” (Lk 24:6). This announcement of the angel in the empty tomb lays the foundation of our continued faith and hope in the Lord Jesus.

As we celebrate Easter we are reminded that goodness always triumphs over sin and evil.  Yes, that is what this great celebration tells us. This reality has been portrayed in the drama of Jesus’ life in which his passion and suffering did not end in his tragic death but resurrection. This whole mystery demonstrates the power and goodness of God who desires salvation for the whole of His creation. 

Today we are once again challenged to have faith and hope in the risen Lord. However the weight of suffering and the seeming triumph of evil that we experience day by day weaken our resolve. At times we are confused and got lost, with the direction of our life leading us to nowhere. The odds are too enormous that we feel we are immobilized to make a leap of faith. Thus, we are tempted to think that evil is in reality more powerful than goodness.

But Easter draws us to the reality that the situation we are in is not without hope. Like, in the time of Jesus, the disciples also encountered the same and similar feeling. The suffering and death of Jesus almost led them to give up hope for a messiah who will liberate them from bondage and sin. Yet, we know by faith that Jesus’ defeat on the cross was just a prelude to a glorious triumph that we now celebrate. His resurrection provided a promise of a new beginning for the disciples’ lives and our lives as well.

This also goes to say to us, that amidst the seeming darkness of our life is the hope of Easter that we can have in Jesus. This is the significance of our celebration.

May all of us who join the whole Christian community in the celebration of Easter renew our faith and hope in the risen Lord.
