FR. GO LLUBIT LEAVES FOR THE COOK ISLANDS

THE MISSION SEND-OFF rites for Fr Gorgonio “Go” Llubit, Jr., MSP and Fr. Reynaldo “Rey” Lipat, MSP took place last June 10, 2008 at the MSP Central House Chapel. The ceremonies were witnessed by the Central House residents, some seminarians and lay friends.

Fr Soc Mesiona MSP, who presided over the holy Eucharistic celebration, said that sending priests in the foreign lands remains the commitment of the MSP despite the urgency and the need for more priests in the country. Fr Soc reminded the two priests of two things: the love for the Eucharist, and the importance of community support. Fr Soc explained that in some mission countries, the daily mass has not been a practice but it does not mean that MSP priests would not celebrate it simply because there are no lay faithful present. Also, he emphasized the longing for a community which is the source of one’s support and strength. In fact, the constitutional “prayer link” should be strengthened.

Then, the two missionaries gave their farewell speeches. On the one hand, Fr Go expressed his excitement to be sent to the Cook Islands, although he was also aware the challenges and difficulties he may encounter there. On the other hand, Fr Rey expressed his gratitude to the MSP for giving him a chance to go back to Taiwan and do mission there.

Fr Go left for the Cook Islands at 6:00pm via New Zealand. He will stay in Auckland for a while before he proceeds to his mission assignment. Fr Rey will be leaving for Taiwan in two weeks’ time. Good luck Fr Go and Fr Rey!
