MSP LEADS THIS YEAR'S FIL-MISSION SUNDAY CELEBRATIONS

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH of the Philippines celebrated the Fil-Mission Sunday last July 27, 2008. The MSP Mission Promotion Office leads these annual festivities by doing missionary campaigns, instilling in the faithful the importance and the responsibility to preach to gospel to other people.

In Davao City, the celebrations were led by the MSP Assistant Promotion Director for Mindanao, Fr Edward Edpalina MSP. The FMAA members were mobilized by going to the different parishes in the area. The number of FMAA members in Davao is rather many and this has greatly helped in the activities.

In Cebu City, Fr Eric Galo MSP with his team of MSP priests and FMAA members also went to different parishes campaigning and ding some appeals. Fr Eric’s team celebrated mass which was aired and seen by the people in the Visayas.

In Manila, a team of MSP priests, seminarians, and lay volunteers (FMAA members and parishioners of the Parish of Our Lady of the Abandoned in Mandaluyong City) went to twelve parishes for the missionary campaigns and appeals. The overseer was Fr Tophie Amoroso MSP, the Assistant Promotion Director for Luzon. In this activity, an MSP priest or an MSP seminarian talked to the congregation the importance of mission, and the day’s celebration as well, while the lay volunteers distributed donation envelopes to the congregation. It was heartening to hear that some non-MSP priests who presided in the holy Eucharistic celebrations have been supportive to the cause of the MSP. Activities started from 5:00am and ended at 10:00pm.

On the eve of the celebration, the MSP fathers and seminarians went to the Parish of Our Lady of the Abandoned in Mandaluyong City for the anticipated celebration. Fr Soc Mesiona MSP, the MSP Father Moderator, was the main presider of the Holy Eucharist. Those who came for the mass were members of the FMAA, volunteers, and parishioners.

Some MSP priests were interviewed by hosts of the Radio Veritas station. First, a program host interviewed Fr Soc Mesiona MSP (the MSP Father Moderator) few days before the celebration. On July 25, 2007, another program host of the same station interviewed Fr Freddie Dizon MSP and Fr Dong Marcaida MSP. And on Fil-Mission Sunday itself, another program, hosted by Sr Pinky (a Pauline sister) and Fr Paul (a Pauline priest), interviewed Fr Pat Casino MSP about the celebration and its importance to the Filipino believer’s life.
