FR. MANDO CANAO FINALLY LEAVES FOR PNG

FR. ROMANDO “Mando” CANAO has finally left for Papua New Guinea on October 15, 2008. He is an MSP Associate member who belongs to the Apostolic Vicariate of Tabuk.

On his farewell mass, Fr Mando shared that he may not find difficulty in adjusting to the new place because he came from a place (i.e., Kalinga Apayao) whose terrains can be compared to the terrains in Papua New Guinea. However, he is anxious how he could cope with homesickness. He admitted that that he has not been used to stay or live far from his family and his province.

A special breakfast was prepared. Present were Fr Soc Mesiona, Fr Pat Casino, Fr Lads Oliver, and Fr Sonny Cantillano, who just arrived from his mission in the Cook Islands.

Fr Mando will work for the Diocese of Vanimo in the West Sepik Province. Since the place is closer to Indonesia, he took the “back-door” entry. He first flew to Jakarta, then he will proceed to Jayapura, a city in Irian Jaya. Fr Guiling Tadena MSP will meet him there and both will cross Vanimo. Good luck, Fr Mando!
