"PINNING OUR HOPE IN THE GOD WHO IS WITH US": A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM FR. SOC

TODAY, the whole Christian community celebrates the feast day of the birth of Jesus our Savior. Peoples of all walks of life gather to pray, share gifts, and break bread together. It is one of the most joyful times of the year that we all long to come and celebrate. It is because it marks the coming of our Savior to live with us.

The letter to the Hebrews explains this mystery in this way: "In times past, God spoke in fragmentary and varied ways to our fathers through the prophets; in this, the final age, he has spoken to us through his Son, whom he has made heir of all things and through whom he first created the universe" (Heb 1:1-2).

The effect of our Lord’s coming is that he has made us children of the light. We are aliens and orphans no more on this earth. He has saved us and, as such, we are now destined and on our way to our true and eternal home in His kingdom.

While we face the coming New Year with gloom of uncertainty because of the effect of the global economic crisis, we continue to pin our hope in the God who is with us. Let the good news of His birth overcome whatever fears we have as we allow Him to be our source of strength.

May the spirit of Christmas continue to enliven our spirit as we join the angels in proclaiming, "Glory to God in the highest and peace to His people on earth!"
