FR. WILLY CELEBRATES HIS SILVER SACERDOTAL ANNIVERSARY

LAST DECEMBER 27, 2008 was a big day for Fr Willy Borces MSP, the Deputy MSP Father Moderator and Parish Priest of the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Cebu City. He celebrated his 25th Sacerdotal Anniversary through an offering of the Holy Eucharist at 7:00am in the Blessed Sacrament Parish.

Joining him in thanking God for the gift of priesthood were the MSP General Council members, viz., Fr Soc Mesiona (the Father Moderator), Fr Lads Oliver (the Bursar General), Fr Pat Casino (the Secretary General) and other MSPs, namely, Fr Ed Edpalina, Fr Aqui Tabamo, Fr Mario Tejada, Fr Sonny Cantillano, and Rev Percy Singco. The brother of Fr Willy, Fr Jimmy Borces, and an SVD priest also joined the celebration. The parishioners, brothers, and relatives of Fr Willy were also present.

In his homily, Fr Willy said that he indeed prepared for this momentous event. In fact, this was preceded by a month-long holy retreat. He mused on the “gift” of priesthood, as well as the importance of teamwork in priestly life. He saw Jesus’ wisdom in sending his disciples “in pairs” because a minister cannot work all by himself. He will always need a co-worker.

Within the mass, Fr Willy recited his personally prepared text of renewal of priestly vows. While he said it, the priests and the congregations prayed over by extending their hands on him.

After the mass, a simple breakfast was prepared for the well-wishers. Congratulations, Fr Willy!
