FR. SOC MESIONA APPOINTED AS THE NEW PMS DIRECTOR

THE PREFECT OF the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples (CEP), Cardinal Ivan Dias, had appointed Fr Socrates C. Mesiona, MSP as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in the Philippines for a term of five years, i.e., from 2009 to 2014 (see World Mission Magazine, July 2009 issue, p.6)

The news of the appointment was first relayed to the MSP Father Moderator, Fr Alfredo Africa, Jr., MSP by the Apostolic Nuncio, in the early days of May 2009. Shortly after the announcement, Fr Soc flew to Rome in order to attend the annual gathering of the national directors coming from the different countries, which was held at the Generalate of the Salesian Society in Rome..

Fr Soc Mesiona had served in the Mission Society of the Philippines as Seminary formator (Director of the MSP Scholasticate, and then, Rector of the MSP Seminary in Tagaytay City); Parish Priest (of Our Lady of the Abandoned in Mandaluyong City); and Administrator (General Councilor, Bursar General, and lastly, Superior General/ Father Moderator from 2004-2009).

He earned his Licentiate in Missiology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1994-1996). Presently, he is a member of the Philippine Association of Catholic Missiologists (PACM).
