LUZON MSP PRIESTS GATHER FOR A YEAR-END THANKSGIVING

The MSP Father Moderator, Fr Soc Mesiona MSP, has requested all MSP priests in Luzon area to come to the MSP Central House in Palanan for a year-end thanksgiving get-together on December 26, 2007 at 7:00 o’clock in the evening.

A fairly good number of MSP priests responded to the invitation. They were Frs Go Llubit, Doods Bugas, Benjie Pelias, Pat Casino, Resti Galang, Maiock Tejada, Jun Tacaisan, Lads Oliver, Tophie Amoroso, Soc Mesiona himself and the two candidates for the MSP Associate Membership, Frs Allan Chabit (of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de oro) and Romando Canao (of the Apostolic Vicariate of Tabuk). Fr Rollie Detera also joined the reunion. Fr Nilo Resco, who is on vacation, also did.

The motherly Tita Nora Arguelles, a dedicated and devoted MSP benefactor, prepared the food for the gathering. Unfortunately, she could not be present in the evening because a relative had just died and she had to be there at the wake.

First, the soiree was an evening of fellowship and sharing. Most of the priests had just come back after the Simbang-Gabi ministry in the parishes of Batangas (Bauan, Lemery, Nasugbu, Lipa, and San Pascual) and in the Parish of Our Lady of the Abandoned (Mandaluyong), and thus each one, veterans and newcomers alike, had a story to tell. Then the Father Moderator proposed a toast for everyone’s luck and blessings in the coming year.

Second, the party was also an evening of songs. Christmas carols filled the air, so to speak. As soon as Fr Go Llubit started playing the piano, the priests perfunctorily sang great Christmas songs, such as, O Holy Night, Silent Night, Angels We Have Heard on High, Pasko na Sinta Ko, Gabing Payapa  etc. The more musically gifted ones, like Fr Benjie Pelias, Fr Nilo Resco, and Fr Maiock Tejada, sang their personal musical favorites.

After the fun and enjoyment, the Father Moderator gave his brief speech. He thanked God for the continuous blessings He poured upon the Society. Indeed, he indicated that the year 2007 is a year of grace (25 years in PNG and 10 years in New Zealand). He also thanked each one for whatever effort he has contributed to the MSP work and apostolate. Finally, he also thanked the priests who went for Simbang-Gabi in Batangas because with their presence, “the MSP leaves a mark” in the parishes where they ministered. He further said, “In our little way, we have contributed to the spiritual growth of the faithful in the area.”
