MSP FATHERS GET TOGETHER FOR THIS YEAR'S CLERGY DAY

The MSP fathers in the Philippines came to Tagaytay City for the Clergy Day gathering on January 28, 2008. The get-together was organized by the Philippine District Moderator, Fr Carmelo Horlador MSP. Those who attended the annual event were Frs Lads Oliver, Tophie Amoroso, Toto Dujali of the POLA community; Frs Pat Casino, Go Llubit, Doods Bugas, Benjie Pelias, Mando Canao, Allan Chabit of the Central House community; Fr Rey Lipat of Tarlac Mission House; Frs Willy Borces, Cedric Alimbuyong of the BSP community; Frs Rollie Detera and Pete Mesiona of the Tayud community; and Frs Ed Edpalina and Eric Galo of Davao Mission House community. Three priests from the foreign mission also joined in, namely, Fr Nilo Pacuribot of Thailand Mission, Fr Guiling Tadena of Papua New Guinea Mission and Msgr Tom Gonzalez of Australia Mission. These three priests are on a holiday.

The first activity of the day was a Holy Hour at 9:00 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m., a talk was given by Fr Peter Lechner SP, the Superior General of the Servants of the Paraclete. His talk embarked upon the suggested topic on community life. On the one hand, he reminded the priests about the foundations of a community for a Society of Apostolic Life, like the MSP. On the other hand, he warned the priests about the negative forces in our present-day culture that destroy the community.

There followed the celebration of the Holy Eucharist within which the two candidates for MSP Associate Membership, Fr Romando Canao of the Apostolic Vicariate of Tabuk and Fr Allan Chabit of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, received an official acceptance from the MSP Father Moderator, Fr Soc Mesiona, through the Rite of Acceptance. The two MSP Associates likewise formally received their mission assignments: Fr Canao will be sent to the Diocese of Vanimo in Papua New Guinea while Fr Allan Chabit will be sent to the Diocese of Georgetown in Guyana.

The afternoon was an occasion for priests to engage in sport. At 6:00 p.m., there was a cocktail party which was followed by a dinner. Some well-wishers from the parish of Our Lady of the Abandoned (POLA) in Mandaluyong came. They brought some food for the dinner. Indeed, the day was an opportunity for brotherhood, fellowship, fun and enjoyment.
